I recently configured a Dell 3115 to scan to a wired network using SMB (not FTP). I heard that this was very difficult to do, many hours had been wasted trying to configure it without success, etc. The reported error code was 016-783. It all boiled down to RTFM.

In fact, the configuration is easy. When I researched this matter on the Web, it appears that those having trouble are trying to put entries in both Share Name and Server Path when configuring scanning via SMB. Of course, it doesn't help when the Dell manual implies an entry is also needed in the Server Path field.

When configuring the Dell 3115 to scan to a computer via SMB, simply leave the Server Path field empty, and populate all other fields appropriately. Happy scanning!
